About Sense Data Lab

Analytics should make decisions clearer—not create more questions

Sense Data Lab is an Australian measurement consultancy helping organisations plan, implement and improve GA4, GTM and reporting. We combine senior technical expertise with straightforward communication, so your team understands what is being measured, why it matters and how to use the resulting data.

Why Sense Data Lab exists

Built to close the gap between analytics and the people using it

Sense Data Lab was founded by James Schmidt-Lindner after seeing the same problem repeatedly while working within the analytics industry.

Organisations were investing in sophisticated platforms and expensive implementations, but the people expected to use them were often left with unclear definitions, limited documentation and little confidence in the resulting data.

James established Sense Data Lab to provide a more accountable approach: understand the decisions an organisation needs to make, define the measurement requirements, implement them properly and make sure the team can use what has been built.

Too often, organisations invest in technically complex analytics implementations only to be left unsure what the data means or whether they can trust it.

Sense Data Lab exists to close that gap. We build measurement systems around real business decisions, explain them clearly and make sure teams can confidently use what has been delivered.

We don't start with tags. We start with the decisions your team needs to make.

We work with stakeholders to understand the customer journeys, business objectives, reporting requirements and existing technical environment.

Our principles

Analytics built around accountability

  1. Measure with a purpose

Every event and conversion should help answer a meaningful business question.

  2. Document before building

Definitions, requirements and responsibilities should be clear before implementation begins.

  3. Validate before relying on the data

Tracking must be systematically tested before it reaches dashboards and business decisions.

  4. Explain without hiding behind jargon

Complex technical work should still be understandable to the people responsible for using it.

  5. Build for the team that inherits it

A successful implementation must remain understandable and maintainable after the initial project finishes.

  6. Stay involved through delivery

Strategy, implementation, QA and reporting should remain connected rather than handed between disconnected teams.

We had a big mess of tags in our Google Analytics account. It was difficult to know which metrics we should be tracking or what the existing tags were measuring.

After working with Sense Data Lab, we knew we were finally tracking the right customer behaviour, flows and data—and could use it to support our teams and business decisions.
